Rita Ora, the new kid on the block, if you haven’t heard about her then there goes nothing. At the age of 21 She’s the first British Artist to be signed by Jay-z’s ‘ROC NATION’ record label. Her pictures caught my eye, a mixture of British pazzaz and funky street describes her style. She’s featured on a song called ‘hot right now’ by DJ Fresh (not the one from South Africa) and has her own tracks ‘How We Do’ and ‘R.I.P’ You should hear these yourself, she's got huge potential.
The U.S produces and drops artists just like that. You have to be consistent with your work and be constantly releasing music, if not, with ease, some-one else will take your spot. That’s how fast the industry places and replaces talent. What happened to the likes of Ciara, B2K (‘baby turn around and let me see that sexy body go bum bum bum’) Omarion, Cassie, Ray J, Kerry Hilson, Mario ('you should let me love you') Let me know of you know where they are.
Fact is if you don’t mean business then you’ll be out of business. I guess that’s the standard of a first world state. Well, I wonder who would be out of business if the same rules applied in South Africa (do name me a few). Rocking my charts lately is South Africa’s own, Prokid. His track ‘Makasana’ with local flavour and a light underground beat, is a must have.
What’s rocking your charts lately?
